Monthly Monkey King Workshops
We would like to continue the work with Journey to the West as a community that began with the amazing Monkey King Marathon. The community celebration of Journey to the West was the most unexpected and the most satisfying aspect of our marathon telling.
To this end we held four Sunday Workshops in the Fall of 2009 in New York City. In each workshop, we explored in-depth an adventure of Monkey King. We met for two and a half hours in the late morning to afternoon.
We began with the telling of the adventure, followed by a discussion of the text, as well as fifteen-minute guided writing sessions. Each person wrote on an aspect of the story which touched them, after which we read our essays to each other.
