Journey to China

Stone Monkey Gazing Over the Sea of Clouds

This is a special sneak-peek of the amazing photos Diane took while on her month long sojourn to China. Yellow Mountain, or Huangshan, is a mountain range in southern Anhui province in eastern China. The area is well known for its scenery, sunsets, peculiarly-shaped granite peaks, Huangshan Pine trees, and views of the clouds from above. Yellow Mountain is also famous for its stone steps, carved into the side of the mountain, of which there may be more than 60,000. The date at which work on the steps began is not known, but they are thought to be over 1,500 years old. These mountains have been the inspiration for painters, poets and musicians for a thousand years. Toward the end of her journey, Diane and her nephew Nathaniel went up into the mountains to hike. One of the beautiful vistas on Yellow Mountain offers views of a rock formation known as “Stone Monkey Gazing Over the Sea of Clouds.” Can you see him?.. We hope you enjoy these photos - more photos and stories soon to come!
